We had a great, fun filled holiday in Roy's camper. It was a grand size for the two of us plus dog with plenty of storage and all the facilities you would need. We did always stay on serviced sites so we didn't use the bathroom facilities but the cooker and fridge were a good size and there was no shortage of utensils. There was a roomy and comfortable space to sit when indoors. We were newbies to this type of holiday so the one thing that had not occurred to us was the fact that there are very few car parks which do not have a height restriction so more careful planning was needed on our part!

Picked up Roy’s camper on 7th June and started our journey to Dingle, cross country. While the camper was 15 years old, it had only done 16,000 miles, so wasn’t expecting any mechanical problems and I was right, it drove well, took a few miles to get used to it, but key is not going above 60 mph and slowing down if windy, which can take a bit of getting used to! Only problems we had with the camper were a couple of quirky locks on the gas bottle panel, which Roy is going to replace, and the fridge works well when hooked up overnight to an electrical source, but does lose a bit of temperature while driving long distances. Apart from that no problem and compared to other rental costs, this is value for money for a week. The beauty of this kind of trip was the freedom to go anywhere you want and when you want, very liberating, as it was our first time in a camper. The camper sleeps 4 comfortably and you can really park it anywhere and bunk down for the night, just watch if you are in the south of Ireland, as many car parks near beaches have height restrictions! We mixed it up a bit and stayed on camp sites 2 nights and parked up - in a hotel car park, beside the beach and next to a loch the other nights. We travelled cross-country from Armagh to dingle and stayed at inch beach, basic but handy enough. There was only outdoor dining, but always found places to eat and drink. We followed the wild Atlantic way from dingle to Sligo - highlights were dingle(Connor pass)- scary but beautiful, kilkee cliffs, cliffs of Moher, the burren (stunning), Connermara national park (even more stunning, achill island - Koom beach feels like the end of the world, magical, Galway for lunch, Westport for dinner, Aughis Head beach tavern, the gallery tapas bar in Westport was great, Spanish point was a blast and numerous walks on lots off beaches along the way! Magical trip and definitely do it again soon. Good luck travellers. cal Carmichael
